Silvia Franz graduated in Chemistry in 1999 from the University of Milan. In 2001 she won a scholarship to attend the PhD School in Materials Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, graduating with honours in 2005. In 2003-2005 she won scholarships funded by IBM S.p.A. and in 2005 an award from the Italian Chemical Society for her research in the field of applied electrochemistry. She has worked at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland) and at IBM T.J.Watson Research Center (New York, USA). In 2008 she became a confirmed researcher at the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano. WP leader of several national and international projects on photoelectrocatalysis and electrochemical synthesis of materials, recently her research activity has focused on materials and electrochemical processes for water treatment and surface treatments for metal polishing. She collaborates with various research institutions and companies, is a reviewer for international journals, and is co-author of 45 class A publications with over 690 citations. She is currently a tenured full professor for the 09/D1 -Science and Technology of Materials.
