Experimentation of a thermophilic biological membrane system for the in-situ minimisation of biological sewage sludge in conventional sewage treatment plants.
The project involved the testing of a thermophilic biological membrane system for the in-situ minimisation of biological sewage sludge. The objective was to evaluate the performance of the process under the hypothesis of a sludge line of a wastewater treatment plant. The results demonstrated not only excellent performance in terms of volatile solids removal (approximately 90%), but also excellent ability of the process to improve the quality characteristics of the sludge produced, for subsequent reuse as a soil conditioner in agriculture.
